After working various fashion houses for 11 years, and in the midst of World War II, participating as a member of the French Army for 5 years, Pierre Balmain founded his own fashion house under his name in 1945. Christopher Decarnin reimagined the Balmain style when he became head designer in 2006; he elaborately decorated pieces that differed from the simplicity of Balmain’s original approach.
